![]() I'm a web developer and I use Inkscape as well as GIMP, my system is Arch (btw) and those programs don't get updates very frequently so I don't think that having a rolling release distro is a must in your case (I don't know about the others), however if your field is graphic design and you have equipment like wacom tablets and stuff, then it may be useful to use one because of the drivers that may come through the newer kernel versions or through the AUR. I think that your focus should be on how recent you want your programs to be and if you need to be always on the "bleeding edge". However, you can save a lot of time by not having to learn how to use Gimp. This is just my take as someone whose using Linux and free software for creative works for a while now, though you can use both of them as they are free. On top of that, most of the things that you can do in Gimp are doable in Krita (photo manipulation and enhancement can be done on Krita), and when compared to Photoshop, Krita is just the most complete one as it can most if not all of what you can do in PS, it can also do animations (just like PS), in comparison to Gimp which is lacking in many aspects (I wonder why it is being recommended as the top free PS alternative). Gimp is okay-ish for photographs and some photo manipulation (not having a shape tool is a real bummer though), but Krita can do non-destructive editing (there's also smart objects into the form of File Layers) and is a better program for making layouts (like posters). ![]() On another topic, if you are going to use a photoshop alternative, Krita is the way to go, not Gimp. It is also very snappy and boot times and app launching is fast (you can watch Techhut's video on YouTube wherein he compare it to Manjaro, Kubuntu etc. On top of that, Snapper Snapshot will save you when you do something wrong on your machine or if there's a bad update. ![]() ![]() Why I use OpenSUSE Tumbleweed? Because it is very stable despite being a rolling release distro (a benefit of this is newer software packages in general).
